Buttress root
Trees in Hard Landscapes, A Guide for Delivery, published by the Trees and Design Action Group in September 2014, defines buttress roots as: ‘…large roots that extend partly above ground as a plate-like outgrowth of the trunk to support a shallowly rooted tree.’
